I wonder how many people are still donating money to Mike?
Starting to delve into car stereo repair, actually just a stack of Jeep Cherokee AM/FM Cassette Players that I have accumulated from online salvage yards and a local one for my 1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. As you know, car stereos are just a scaled down version of home stereos so anyway my original 56002467(1991) had a left channel that was going out, so I have been basically taking a chance and hoping these players would be in good playing condition. Well, most of these radios have faulty tape modules so I swapped out the tape modules in two 2467 cases and now have me some rocking tunes. Would like one or two backups on standby so I hope you can help me tackle the issues with some of these players. My original 2467 has a good tape module but bad left channel and another 2467 has a bad right channel and took the good tape module out of this one to put into a good 2467 left/right channel case. Have a 56009004(1992) with slightly low volume with the volume knob maxed out. Need just a little more volume to be ok. Have a 56003019(1990) with a high squeal with no AM/FM reception with faulty tape module and the rest are 56003021(1988) with faulty tape modules. They have a motor that draws in the tape and lowers it into position. None will draw the tape in, so you have to manually push the tape in then you have to pull the tape out with needle nose pliers. You can hear the motors running though. The 3019&3021 have different looking boards and modules so I know not to buy any more of these. If I cannot get these repaired, I will search for two more good 2467 cases for the two good modules in my original 2467 and 9004.
Beautiful radio, my dad had a new one, great radio it was, I think it was better radio than the 135
I just picked on up got it powering up. Each meter does not work I can hear but can’t get out and the clock don’t work
I wish I had some of your knowledge. I have a Uniden PRO-710e base with no transmit/no receive. I only have basic tools...multimeter...capacitor ESR tester, transistor tester....no scopes or anything. Is there a way to test the PLL chip with basic stuff to see if the PLL chip is bad? I know some volts on the PLL prongs aren't correct, but not sure what is causing it.
Great video. I've been watching gmrs videos for weeks. This is probably the best one about antennas. Thank you!
They are good compromise antennas. Is it perfect, no. No antenna is. I know several people that use these mounted to their window air conditioner, on top of their refrigerator, setting on the floor in their attic or on a shelf on a bookshelf. Since it's a no ground plane design it's not picky about what it's setting on. I actually ran around for almost a year with this on the roof of my 1 ton van and noticed no difference in performance compared to the normal ground plane version of this antenna from Laird.
What does the r52 adjustment do on cobra 29 1993 Philly
R52 is not adjustable, it's a fixed value resistor. It's part of the SWR bridge circuit.
@@mikesradiorepair that what i thought but this one has a adjustment pot maybe somebody installed it thanks for your time
I trying to learn about the hobby and how they work watched alot of utube school lol and i have bought several pieces of test equipment to try to learn and do it the right way like oscilloscope / signal generator/ spectrum analyzer / dummy load. Any good tips or books u recommend for a newbe wanting to learn the hobby and keeping it alive thanks again. Taking the time to me my original question

Mikes radio chat to much talk through and not repair show
Got a galaxy II , no mike, anyone got info of a compatible mikes??
I hated factory cord with the string in them back in the day. First thing I did with a new radio was put on a new Belden mic cord.
If you can run it the sound great on AM. Key the mic you get crystal clear booming sound as you said with mic gain at 2-3 key about 15-20 watts.
Hi Mike, my program outlet teeth are missing. Can you help me?
First you said pin 2 or tp2 as royce calls it then you said pin 12??? which is it???
12. If you watch the video at time stamp 17:30 it's shown in the SAMS manual. Videos are unscripted so slips of the tongue happen, sorry.
@@mikesradiorepair no its all good I have one on the bench right now had the bad filter got that fixed now she is off freq a bit and I am wondering if I remove the power supply I would have access to the trimmers in the pll unit?? DE N9WQ
@@835YT Yes, you can remove the power supply module and leave it connected to power the radio to gain access to align the PLL synthesizer module. If I remember correctly I think you have to remove the radio side of the power supply module wiring harness from the bracket so you can stretch it out far enough.
Have you ever got a service manual for the Lincoln 2+ ? It’s really starting to annoy me lol having it for the McKinley has been so nice.
Why cant you just get to the point in all your video's...blaaaaaqq
Is that Uniden wireless microphone a BC906W ?? Also found another mic on ebay, Uniden BMKG0689001 that looks like the 6-pin plug and the strain relief might be the same thing as what you're using.
followup - OOPS !!! My ADI AR-446 uses an *8-pin* plug !!!! Has anybody found a good replacement for that cable? Much like what Mike said, the sheath is just totally disintegrating........
I have watched this counteless times over the years, finally bits and pieces slowly fit in.Let's face it Mike, if you can't understand a microphone schematic or understand the wiring then then there is really no point in progressing to fixing a radio. Great video PeaceN73 🇦🇺 🪃
Which mosfets do you like to use for replacements? I see some TIP36C from galco but looking for the FQP13N10 mosfets and there are so many options.
My radio had the same clock issue. Its fixed now thanks to you. great video. Is that a 33 ohm resister.
i love all your videos' and miss seeing new ones on here
Thanks Mike, i have found a new one but a different make ( still a 74ls90n) hoping it should be OK, the old one is still working just a bit worried about the crack in it.
Most vintage IC's in the 4000 and 74 series have been in production for decades and were made by many different manufacturers. As long as the part number is the same you will be fine.
Hi Mike, i have the CPI BC 2000 console, one of the 74ls90n 7811 ic's has a crack in it, what would you recommend as a replacement . thank you
If it's a 74LS90N, replace it with the same. I would check to make sure there aren't other problems. Remove the old IC and check all voltages to see that everything looks correct before installing the new one.
Just having a look at one now - is there a trick to taking the cases off? Do you need to remove the handle and the feet beforehand ?
They sell kenwood tm-241a mike Chinese mike fits perfect
Nice video. Thank you. That speaker on that little rig looks like an earphone would knock it out of the ring. Definitely want to aux it to another speaker or Bluetooth it.
Mike, is there any way the 455 filters can stop transmit in a radio, too? Or, is it just receive only? I have a Uniden PRO-710e I'm working on that has no receive and no transmit. Trying to get any ideas I can! Thank you!
No, receive only.
@@mikesradiorepair Thank you! Do you still repair radios?
Just FYI, that $200 in 1962 is just over $1500 in June of 2024... Learned some new things about testing and finding issues with tube gear from this. Thanks Mike, I hope you're doing well these days.

Wow, randomly looking at 2000gtl videos and found yours. Just posted 21 minutes ago.. crazy.. I recently acquired my father's 2000, he bought it in early 90s. It has some mods and dings on it.. I want to restore it, it all works perfect, except I don't need the mods as I'm a ham and have radios for that. I want to restore to factory eventually, however I'd like to fix the ugly holes in the bezel first, any idea where I can get a front bezel? Once I make it better looking ill remove all the mods if possible..
Did he go away?

I've been peaking CB,s for 50 years and clipping limiters never had a problem 😮
And probably don't own and use a spectrum analyzer to check adjacent channel splatter and out of band emissions.
@@mikesradiorepair I cut the limiter on radios that I use a stock mic on stock.Mikes need all the help they can get. They'll only overmodulate if you whistle. However I do use in a silk scope from time to time you are the master
